MFD and NA converting patchcords

Have you ever needed to combine instruments with widely varying requirements regarding the numerical aperture (NA) or mode field diameter (MFD) in your experiment? Perhaps your emitter has a very small active area, but you still connect it with an FBG mesh written in a standard fiber and really can’t afford this persistent power loss due to the mod mismatch? We have a solution for you.

Fibrain’s mode conversion patchcords can tailor NA and MFD to the requirements of your experiment and look like the usual fiber optic patchcords, with clearly marked connectors. The excess loss due to the mode conversion is typically minimal, still maintaining a strict single-mode regime. Almost any fiber type and connector combination is possible, for example, UHNA4 / FC APC on one side and SM1950 / E2000 UPC on the other. Similarly, the length is customizable.
